August/September Newsletter from the principal

Sunday night message from Ms Gentry 8/30/15:

Thanks to all of our students and staff for a wonderful first week of school! Here are a few reminders for the coming week:
Boys soccer and boys and girls cross country tryouts will continue this week on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Good luck to all 7th and 8th grade students trying out.
Families, your students received a lot of information from the school this past week. One of those items was the student handbook, which is at the front of the student agenda. Please take the time to review this information with your students. It is especially important that our students review and practice the CHAMPs behavior expectations for their classrooms, hallways, and lunchroom.
Students, please remember to pay your required 0.50 lock fee to your homebase teacher. This is the only required school fee. Students can also purchase an SEMS gym suit for $16.00 if they wish, but this is not required.
We would like to remind our parents and guardians to follow all parking directions when dropping off and picking up students at school. All cars in the front parking lot are to remain in line and follow all directives of the staff when pulling forward. Students are not to get out of their cars until at the front of the line at the main school doors. In addition, no cars are permitted on the left side of the school parking lot - this is an area reserved for school staff at all times. We appreciate your cooperation with this traffic pattern.

Weekly Announcements from the Principal for week of June 8

logoFullName

Good luck to our 8th graders this week. They will have their 8th grade ceremonies on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings at 8:00am. A different set of homebases will be honored each morning. Each ceremony should last about one hour.

The 8th grade celebration and cookout is scheduled for Tuesday after the first ceremony.  Students have already received the information on the activities that will be taking place. Please remember that all debt must be cleared in order to attend the celebration activities. In addition, students must have not received an OSS or day-long ISS. If it rains on Tuesday, the celebration will be postponed to Wednesday.

Students will begin cleaning out their lockers this week. Students are encouraged to take home their belongings throughout the week. By Thursday and Friday, it will not be necessary for them to bring their bookbags back and forth to school.  We would like to remind all students and families that bus safety is especially important this week.  It is the expectation of the school that all students behave on the buses to and from school.  Students can still risk being disciplined should they misbehave or throw any items out of the school bus windows.  Throwing items out of a bus is considered against the law, and Kernersville Police Department is asking for our assistance and cooperation in making sure students remain seated and follow all safety rules on our buses.

The last day of school for students will be this Friday. We would like to thank all of our students, staff, and families for a wonderful school year! Report cards will be sent home on June 24.
