Congratulations to Jenny Watson, Cynthia Hatch, and our FCCLA club!



SEMS FCCLA received the National Middle School STOP the Violence Award, which focused on our anti-bullying and kindness projects throughout the school year.  We will be presented the award in D.C. along with a check for $1000 to assist with additional projects, workshops, etc. during next school year!  The award presentation will also include a video with photos, etc. detailing our project.  Students have been asked (and are required) to lead a workshop as well as be in the Spotlight on Projects.  

In addition, for the second year in the row, our chapter was recognized for being the largest FCCLA chapter in North Carolina.

Band:  1st place AA Band, Grand Champion MS Band
Chorus: 1st place Women’s Choir, “Superior” rating. Grand Champion MS Choir, Mixed Choir “Superior” rating, 1st place Mixed Choir
Orchestra: “Good” rating, 1st place Orchestra

Congratulations to the following students who passed auditions for the Northwest All-District Honors Band.  They will represent Southeast MS at the All-District Clinic
which was  re-scheduled for Sunday and Monday, April 12 -13.   They will now perform at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory (previously scheduled for Boone but postponed due to snow)

Congratulations to Gene Mabry and the SEMS Band!  On Tuesday, March 24th they received a Superior rating at the MPA festival! In addition, Gene has been selected to direct a Piedmont Honors Band later this week. Proud of our Music program!


Also, Congratulations to Jennifer Wells and her Chorus group.  Yesterday at their MPA festival, they earned 4 Superior ratings (the top ratings you can get)!  Once again, we are so proud of our Music Department and students! Stephanie J. Gentry

The following students from Robotics Team 1 are the first group to bring a trophy back from the North Carolina Regional Qualifying tournament.

We received our Honors chorus results from September 25, 2014. Out of over 1000 kids that auditioned in NC, only 170 were selected and 3 were from Southeast!

We'd like to take the time to thank Mrs. Julie Bush for her service as our 7th grade Science teacher on the Lightning Bolts team during this first month of school. Monday is Julie's last day. Mr. Jeff McCandless will start as our new 7th grade Science teacher on Tuesday. Please take the time to welcome him to campus if you see him.

Congratulations to Coach Pizzino and the girls soccer team.  They defeated Kernersville yesterday 1-0 to clinch the title for the Eastern Conference Champion.  They will play Meadowlark on Monday, April 28, at 3pm at the Ivey Redmon Complex (formerly Beeson Park).  Please come out and support our girls!

Congratulations to Andrew Pittman and Austin Quesenberry!  They have won cash prizes in the National School Breakfast Contest!




Congrats to Gene Mabry and his Symphonic Band. They made straight SUPERIORS from all four judges at MPA!!!!!!

Congratulations to Ms Wells and the Concert Choir and Women's Choir both received a Superior  rating March 13th at MPA (music performance adjudication), and both choirs received a Perfect 100 score from the sight reading judge for a total of 4 Superiors! They did an exceptional job representing Southeast Middle!

Congrats to Lauren Bowman, 8th grader. She placed first in the WSFCS Science Fair and will compete at the state level next month.

I am very proud of all of the Southeast Band Students who auditioned.
Our students auditioned against hundreds of others.  
I was one of the judges who auditioned 91 clarinet students. 

The students listed above will represent SEMS at the NW All-District Band Clinic on February 21 - 22 at Appalachian State University.

The Northwest District is a section of the 
North Carolina Bandmasters Association.  Membership is made up of band directors from Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Iredell, Stokes, Surry, Wilkes, Watagua, and Yadkin counties.

We're very excited to report that all of our FCCLA students placed in the top five in their competitive events this past weekend!  There was only one more student from North Carolina who placed so we were very pleased!   All students took a knowledge test as well as presented an oral presentation.  I've attached a photo of the students recognized on stage (those in the top three) with FCCLA National President Brian Will and National Vice President Tucker Berry.
