Sunday Night Announcements from Ms Gentry:

• All students will be taking their quarter benchmark tests in Math and Reading on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
  
  
  Good luck to our track teams this week. They will compete against Clemmons and Meadowlark on Wednesday afternoon. The meet will take place at Parkland High School starting at 3 pm.
  
  
  Friday is the last day of the third quarter.  All students will be on Spring Break from March 28 - April 5. SEMS will be closed during Spring Break. All students and staff will return to school on Monday, April 6.  Then report cards will be distributed on April 15.
  
  
  Thanks to all of our students, staff, and families for a wonderful third quarter!
•  The report card distribution date has been pushed back one week. Therefore, all teacher grades and verification reports are due by Tuesday, April 7, at 3:00pm.  Then the report card distribution will take place on Wednesday, April 15. This is an early release day, we will report back to homebase just a few minutes early for students to receive their report cards before they go home.

Ms Gentry's Sunday night messages:

·       The PTSA Chicken Pie and Baked Spaghetti order pickup will be on Monday from 2:00 - 6:00pm in our multi-purpose room. 

·       Good luck to our basketball teams this week. On Tuesday, our 7th grade teams will play at home against Kernersville Middle starting at 3pm. Then our 8th grade teams will travel to Kernersville Middle for the Kernersville Cup games starting at 6:00pm on Tuesday night. We strongly encourage those of you who wish to attend the Kernersville Cup games to arrive early.  We are expecting a large crowd and many will be turned away at the door due to the small capacity of the KMS gym.   (cancelled due to snow day)

·       Then on Thursday, we will have our makeup games against Northwest Middle.  The 8th grade teams will play at home starting at 3pm and the 7th grade teams will travel to Northwest.  (cancelled due to snow day)

·       Core and Encore progress reports will go home with students this Wednesday. 

·       Students, please remember to bring in your Boxtops to your home base teachers by this Wednesday.  

·       The 7th grade social will take place this Friday from 2-4pm.  All 7th grade students will receive a copy of the permission slip when they return to school on Monday from your home base teachers.  7th graders wishing to attend must have their permission slip and money turned in by Friday. The 8th grade social that was cancelled last week has been rescheduled for Friday, March 13. 

·       Join us for the Spring Arts Festival on Thursday, March 5.  We are still looking for those interested in having a booth at the arts and crafts show. In addition, we will have our Book Fair Family Night, a visiting author presentation, music performances, face painting, and much more. Admission is free! • This week is Random Acts of Kindness Week. To kick off our events, we will have Marvel Monday.  We ask that all students and staff wear their favorite superhero t-shirts and challenge everyone to at least five good deeds for the day!

• Please consider joining the PTSA.  Membership is only $5.  Students received membership slips last week. Please fill out the membership form and return with your $5.

•  The PTSA fundraiser is still going strong this week. They are selling Mrs. Pumpkin's chicken pies and baked spaghetti.  All orders and money are due to the school by this Friday.  We challenge all of our students to get those orders in - right now our staff members are in the lead with the most orders placed!  There will be prizes for our top selling students.

• Please remember that this Wednesday is an Early Release Day.  All students will be dismissed at 12:00pm. Buses will run their normal routes after dismissal.  (Schedule)

• Good luck to our basketball teams this week. On Thursday, our 7th grade teams will play at home against Walkertown and our 8th grade teams will travel to Walkertown Middle starting at 3pm.  Then on Friday, our 7th grade teams will play at home against Hanes Middle and our 8th grade teams will travel to Hanes.  The start time of this game is 3:30, so any students planning to watch the game must leave campus after school and may return at 3:30 for the game.

• Congratulations to all of our students who earned straight A's during the 2nd quarter. We will have our All A's celebrations this Friday morning.

• Please join us on March 5 for our annual Spring Arts Festival.  Festival flyers have been sent home with all students this past week. Admission is free.  We will have an arts and crafts show, book fair, face painting, art demonstrations, and a visiting author presentation. Join us for a funfilled night of literacy and the arts! Please call the school for more information.

 Upcoming Events:

•  February 23-27 is SEMS Spirit Week!  We will designate a different type of day each day of the week. Staff members may dress casual on these days as long as they participate in that day's activity.  In addition, we will have a door decorating contest to show your Jaguar Pride. Doors will be judged by the administration and prizes will be given away for the most creative

• We will have another round of socials this winter for our students. Social dates:  8th grade = February 20, 7th grade = February 27, 6th grade = March 6.
•  The Spring Arts Festival will take place on Thursday, March 5.  We plan to have music performances, book fair, arts and crafts show, and a visit from a local author.
• The SEMS Book Fair will take place the week of March 2-6.
